any mainers?

I'm thinking to spend my winter break in one of the casco bay islands in maine. I heard the place is pretty 'dead' during winter time, because of its cold weather and ice storm. But wouldn't islands a bit warmer than the mainland? Am i too crazy to go there during winter?

I live in California now, but I have went to a high school in Vermont for a year. I think I know what it feels to be in a single digit weather. But still, do you think that I would spend most of my time inside the vacation home and no outdoor activity?
