Colleges are looking for students who are likely to represent their institution well on the national or global stage. They accept people based upon who they think will promote the name of the school, essentially. Although it may seem like demonstrated commitment in a relationship is significant enough to show this, you are not really telling the university how you are going to make them happy about accepting you, about what you are going to go on to do in the future. Volunteering for an AIDS organization or something like that does.

Having a baby and showing commitment and hard work in playing with him or her would be an even better EC.

Wow, I'm quite impressed at the quality of some of these responses in spite of the very low-quality question put forth. Yes, this thread is MOSTLY joke, but I figured it would be a breath of fresh air for the adcoms. As others mentioned, though, if I put that information on my app it would probably be more detrimental than beneficial to my chances of being accepted. At the very least, I hope this thread gave a few people a chuckle.

Your girlfriend will leave you because you are obviously using your relationship with her to get yourself in a better college.

Don't listen to these posters. They are just jealous and trying to deceive you. Anything can be an EC:
I'm applying to the University of California, Merced, one of the most elite schools in the nation, as it is a UC.
My ECs:
I have a level 124 RuneScape character that I have played on for 5 years, he has level 97 woodcutting.
I have 450 wins and 250 losses on StarCraft.
I devoured a 72 ounce steak in Texas in 45 minutes.
I can open a bottle of ketchup without hot water or any assistance whatsoever.
I post on this forum.
I post on a Lakers forum and am a huge Lakers fan. I have seen over 250 games.
I read over 100 novels in my lifetime.
My friend has a cellphone.
I'm a guy, and I shave my legs anyway.
These are all great extra-curriculars that you can use. If you have anything like mine, then you have some very good ECs.

@Saugus:
I love the people in this forum; such great sarcasm!
Do you think playing WoW for three years would be a good one too then? I mean, my level isn't that high but three years is dedication right?

^ only counts if you were passionate about playing WoW. The numbers don't matter in the eyes of colleges, but the time/effort put in does help.
Also, I have never killed a person for the past 17 or so years. Shows self control/commitment.

Yeah, that's great. Colleges also like to see long term commitment to activities, and I have NEVER gone a day without some sort of sleep in my life, so that will help me a lot.
Other ECs that I came up with:
I tried out for my school FootBall team but got rejected because I was too fit. Apparently, you have to weight at least 175. I'm in better shape than all of the FootBall players.
I submitted a design for a graphic arts competition, and I was so important that they sent me an E-Mail informing me that I didn't win, and they were very sorry.
I babysat a praying mantis for 3 days, after which I put in a spider and the spider wound up eating the praying mantis.
I can use spellcheck.
My bladder is stronger than the average bladder.
One time, I threw up on a guy's snowboard and ran away.
And my academics aren't bad either:
Class rank: 46 (Out of 46 students)
Sat Score: 1590 (But maybe they will think that it is out of 1,600, and not 2,400! If that's the case, then I have a nearly perfect score!)
Hooks:
I don't really have any, but I've watched like 5 minutes of Keith Olbermann, and he went to Cornell, so I guess that I can use him as a legacy.
Schools I shall be applying to:
UC Merced
Cal State NorthRidge
Lamar University
Master's College
College of the Canyons
Cornell
My common application essay:
"Hi you guys, can I come to your collage? I think that it would be awesome!!!111111 Your collage has been one of my favorites since I heard about it last week. Enclosed are my excellent transcript and accomplishments. Well, I'll ttyl because I know that I'm getting in."

Saugus, are you serious?
With THAT many ECs, being in the 99th percentile of your class and an almost perfect SAT You should be aiming for HYP because those are the only schools that matter!
