Is having a girlfriend for three years a solid extracurricular?

It takes a lot of effort and dedication to maintain a relationship for three years, especially in high school. On top of that, I have pretty good grades and other extracurriculars. Is maintaining a relationship for three years a solid extracurricular for my resume?

No, and don't write about it in your essay either.

Would you put "Married for 20 years" on a work resume?

Better than volunteering over 9000 hours at the local hospital or founding AIDS shelters in Africa.

That's a real accomplishment--demonstrates maturity, earnestness, commitment, fidelity, financial savvy/security, ability to cooperate and negotiate with others, and so on.

Well, you've gotten a chorus of answers that say No. It's up to you to heed them or not. If you choose not to, please come back and report how successful a strategy it was.

If I were reading app files, yours would definitely be a head shaker...

straw grasper!!

In case you're serious and the previous posts have been insufficient, I'll add: don't do it.

1. you have like 10 ECs and am captain/prez/leader in everything. you can add in additional info. "oh btw, i also had a gf for 3 years, solid committment" - YES

2. you have 2 ECs, no leadership. "oh btw, i had a gf for 3 years, committment blah blah" FAIL

You all failed to mention WHY this is a bad idea. I doubt it would harm me. If anything, it will make my application stand out.

Your application would stand out in this manner: 1) this dude is really grasping for straws 2) "Who is he trying to fool?"

But you definitely seem determined to buck all of our conventional advice. Let us know what happens.
