Is pursuing minor degrees really useless?

So far, just about everyone I talked to said that minor degrees are useless. I'm just wondering why that is. Don't they carry any weight at all when you are applying for a job? I always thought that a properly picked minor can nicely compliment your major and augment your skills.
I have a very good chance to get a double-minor right now. My major is Information Systems and alot of classes from my major overlap with Computer Science minor and Systems and Operations Management minor. I could get a double-minor only taking an extra 17-18 units.

So, is it worth it to possibly stay an extra semester in school or take summer classes to get this double-minor? Will it open doors for me somewhere down the line?
