Starting my college essay...any advice?

Hi, I am starting my college essay and was looking for any advice from people who have done this before. Should I take a risk or play it safe? Pick a unique topic, or stick to the usual type of essay. I know this is a broad question, but any advice will help a ton; and anyone else who is in the process of writing feel free to list any advice you have heard too! Thanks in advance!

Most important thing to remember, which most people forget, is to keep your own voice throughout the essay. You should sound like yourself.
Topic choice does not mata. People can/have written about a whole range of topics from silly to pretty much war stories and gotten in.

I think for as long as you are able to justify all your points, you can be as original as you like... so pick any topic that really interests you, something that you have really thought about. then let your ideas flow and simply find examples or evidence to justify your arguments. never write something without having anything else apart from your word supporting it!
