Please help! Boston University supplement essay

In no more than 250 words, please tell us why BU is a good fit for you and what specifically has led you to apply for admission?

I have always had an affinity for large cities. When I first visited Boston I immediately knew that it was my favorite city of all the ones I had ever been to, and the vibrancy and energy I experienced there are unparalleled. I believe that Boston University is the best fit school for me because not only is it located in my favorite city, but it is also the only school that offers everything I seek in an institution of higher education. The sociology program will provide me with a well-rounded education and prepare me with the skills I will need when I apply for graduate school and, eventually, enter the workforce. I will be able to broaden my knowledge by learning from qualified instructors who are experts in their fields. There are also countless opportunities I would like to take advantage of at BU, including studying abroad and participating in the myriad of activities and clubs offered. With BU's unique atmosphere, priding itself on its diversity, I hope to make lasting relationships with people from all over, while getting to learn about their cultures and way of life. I believe that attending Boston University will give me the ultimate college experience where I can learn and grow not only as a student, but also as an active member of the global community.

The things you mentioned can apply to almost any college in an urban setting. I suggest you go to BU website and review its sociology program and clubs/campus activities. Find specifics of these that most appeal to you. Then rewrite your essay. Also, what specifically do you like about Boston? "vibrancy and energy" can describe most cities.

Hope this helps. Good luck! : )

I agree, find something that is specific to BU. You can maybe mention how the school is so enthusiastic about the ice hockey team or something.

OK thank you for your prompt responses!! Here is my revised draft:

I have always had an affinity for large cities. When I first visited Boston it mesmerized me with its vibrancy and energy. I believe that Boston University is the best fit school for me because not only is it located in my favorite city, but it is also the school that offers everything I seek in an institution of higher education. The sociology program will provide me with a well-rounded education and the skills I will need when I apply for graduate school and, eventually, enter the workforce. I am especially intrigued by the Undergraduate Sociology Association, where I hope to gain insight on sociological issues while growing ties with fellow sociology students. I will be able to broaden my knowledge and benefit from countless opportunities such as studying abroad and participating in the myriad of activities and clubs offered. With BU's unique atmosphere, priding itself on its diversity, I hope to make lasting relationships with people from all over while learning about their cultures and way of life. I believe that attending Boston University will give me the ultimate college experience where I can learn and grow not only as a student, but also as an active member of the global community.
