My essay is complete, but I'm secong guessing the topic...help?

My essay is complete, but I'm having second thoughts about the topic I have chosen to write about. In a nutshell, I have written about overcoming a physical disability to the point of being made MVP of my sports team at school. Its focus is really about inspiring others rather than tooting my own horn however. I was very careful with my wording.

Do you think this is an OK subject? I’m scared because I see my disability as an almost moot point in my life but, it's all I can really think of that paints the best, most unique picture of "me".

it sounds like a great topic to me. it shows you overcoming challenges, and inspiring others, both of which colleges will love. and you also say it paints the best picture of "you", which is what they're really looking for,

It REALLY depends on the tone/voice of the essay. While such a life experience is genuinely important and formative for the individual, it is also such a common phenomenon that the essay topic itself is generally overdone. It's not unlike the "I travelled abroad and learned that all people are wonderful (or: learned that the U.S. is both unique and great, yet flawed, or...)" essay.

Yours can be a great essay topic, but it REALLY depends on the presentation. It would help to know what type of disability you overcame. Example: One could write a very humorous essay about being a short, fat basketball player. But I somehow think that is not what you have written.

Good luck!
