Hi, I am applying to Amherst. They ask to write an essay about a quote. Does anyone have a good idea how to shape a personal experience around a specific quote? I am totally lost and my councilor says my essay digresses.
What a vague question! I wouldn't know how to begin to help you without knowing about your life, the specific quote you're doing, and what type of writer and storyteller you are.
I can tell you, though, that you are not alone in your bewilderment. I hated Amherst's essay topics so much that I considered not applying there, only to submit my application the day of the deadline.
I heard that someone from my school once applied to a college where one of the essays was 'explain ur fave quote' or something like that. and he just wrote "less is more." and left it at that. haha
less is more... haha. I admit I asked a vague question, coz I have no idea how to approach any quote with a personal angle...
