Supplemental Essays - Straight forward answers?

For the supplemental essays, such as "Why are you choosing this school/what can you add?", etc etc.

Are straight forward answers OK? I mean, how unique do they want you to be with it. I'm writing mine for Lehigh right now, and just how I've done research and all of their research opportunities, I can add experience....and how their social life is great.

I know this is sort of generic, but I don't see how I can be unique without giving my real answer. I included specific research they are doing and how I did the exact same stuff over the summer, but that's it...

The reason for these questions should be clear. Schools want to know that you have done the research and understand that you have made an intelligent choice. They want to know that there is an academical and cultural fit and if your application is approved you are likely to attend and do well. Specific examples and explanations will help demonstrate this understanding. The second question provides another opportunity to highlight your accomplishments, abilities and future plans. Again, be specific.
