Thoughts on Professional Essay Editing?

I was wondering if anyone has used any of these services and what they thought about it. I've found one that is pretty complete: www.*********.com

Any thoughts on this one or others?

Looking at the samples they provide on the site, their editing seem kind of cheesy, it definitely reads like its been "edited." I tried having a college counselor edit my essay when I was writing it, and in the end I just felt like any time someone "edits" your writing as drastically as they seem to have done on that site, you tend to lose your voice and it reads as almost robotic. I would suggest instead that you ask parents or an english teacher to edit it, someone who's familiar with your writing style. Those sites don't focus on giving you the best essay; they focus on getting your money.

Zucky07 is right......the essays these sites give you are very "robotic".....they take out the personal touch from your essay......I bet the adcoms are able to recognize it when the essay has been edited by such sites......I wouldn't use such services....
Instead, try getting some help from your friends or teachers

I wouldn't waste your money. I mean, why bother paying when you can post your essay here or personalstatementexchange.com or another free site? Hell, even getting an essay edited by someone at a college writing center would probably be a better bet.

I think when editing becomes rewriting, a line has been crossed. Getting someone else to rewrite your essay--rather than suggest changes and leave it to you to make them--is cheating, in my book. And my book says some very strong things in the footnotes about cheating.

And paying somebody to help you cheat... well, that's pretty sick. That's what this "Essay Edge" service looks like to me. I don't understand why someone would turn to a company like that when they could ask a friend, a parent, a teacher--someone who knows them well and can help preserve their (and their essay's) integrity and voice. Maybe people believe that something is better just because it costs money. Of course, maybe they're just lazy and don't give a damn about integrity.

Either way, it makes me sad.

Just to add something about these particular services. Some provide free samples of their work and I read 5 or 6 of them just out of curiosity. I saw one and the same sentence, written in one and the same way in two different essays! As you think for a while it is not at all surprising - these people edit certainly 1000+ essays on 4 topics from the common App - they can not make each of them unique or stand out from the others. I think the best way is to put something you have been devoted to for a long time and with a lot of passion on paper - something meaningful to you. That's what the add coms want to see.
