clarification on Common App Prompt #4

yes, it is 3AM PST and im on cc. lol

4. Describe a character in fiction, a historical figure, or a creative work (as in art, music, science, etc.) that has had an influence on you, and explain that influence.

I'm not quite clear if the phrase "or a creative work (as in art, music, science, etc.) that has..." can be interpreted as allowing me to ONLY write about a fictional character or will writing about an actual work (i.e. Catcher in the Rye) still be within the constrains of the prompt.

also, i was wondering how some of the people that chose this prompt are planning to approach it.

I would think that it would still be within the constrains of the prompt to use Catcher in the Rye.

^ i agree.... it seems like the question is: describe a charactor in a creative work of art ( such as fiction, non-fiction,music, drama etc.) that has had an impact on u and describe that influence
