Need Useful Topics!!!!!

What kind of essays are adcoms looking for? I mean topic wise? Which topics are appealing to them? Which ones are not?

Thanks please comment!

Well, I'm no adcom, but I think they're looking for a piece that speaks about your personality, not a sob story.
I think the topics that are most appealing to them are the ones that answer their essay prompts--well, duh, that sounds obvious, but it's absolutely true.
The best essays that I have read are ones that discuss a single moment in time and then broaden that moment in order to convey a theme or message. I can also PM you some quirkier essay ideas.

Adcoms don't want essays that students think adcoms will want to read... they want to read a unique essay that says something that only you can say. Read "On Writing the College Essay" for more in-depth, but to think of a topic, try to brainstorm stuff like what event influenced your life the most, or you could talk about an activity that you do every day, but write about it with a lot of detail. Say something that tells a lot about you, and if you need help, ask friends and family for stories about you.

nothing too risky. And you want to reveal your character.
those are about the only guidelines.

Instead of asking us stop and think.

What is important to you: family, sports, community service, theatre, etc?

What makes you different?

What do people think of you/remember about you?

What are your strengths?

Brainstorm and list. Something will come to mind.

you're never supposed to try to get content from other people. This essay is supposed to be about YOU, who you are, what you're like, why the college would need you. You get content from anyone else, and you're tainted. Thats why they say you only ask other people to proof for GRAMMAR and SPELLING, never content.

Same with writing what you THINK the school wants to hear.. because chances are many other people are doing that as well, so your essay ends up cliched and fake. That and you want to write like you're not scared by how impressive the school is, because you'll write more freely and more like yourself instead of being all uptight and stick-up-your-arse sounding.

now instead of asking us, why dont you go brainstorm a bit? you dont, after all, want your essay to sound like a billion inputs from people who dont know you. You also dont want it sloppy, in a million different directions, or immature. Brainstorming will help with that. So instead of wasting time here trying to wheedle ideas out of people (who have probably given the same ideas to other people as well), why dont you go and try to be original?

sorry if that sounded harsh.
