Engineering Essay

I am applying to an engineering college (Rose Hulman), and applicants are encouraged to include something extra. I was the first from my school to get accepted into the IU Honors Program in Foreign Languages and I really want to write about that. Would it look bad to write about something other than math or science? If so, what should I write about?

I think it may add depth to your application. If your classes, ECs, etc. show your talent and interest in engineering, it may impress admissions to show them that you are multi-faceted, and can add an aspect (foreign language), to the campus community. RHIT takes pride in offering (and requiring) alot of humanities, and they encourage foreign language for that.

Do whatever. I know the admissions people here and they're looking for well-rounded students. Your transcript (and EC's) will speak for your interest in math and science.

Rose doesn't require any essay or extra stuff, but if you do want to add something like talking about your foreign language program, that's fine, anything to give them the best picture possible of you as a student.
