how informal??

Hey guys....I was wondering: for the Stanford "Write a note to your roommate" prompt, how informal do you recommend I write it? I was thinking of writing it as if I were talking or writing a note to one of my friends, which is really chill and stuff.

p.s. My main essay is a little more formal, though it still reflects a side of my voice. I was just thinking about showing my "high school" side in this prompt. What do you think?

I had the same question. Mine is informal also. It is a letter to a peer after all.

I think informal is fine, but I wouldn't be too informal. In other words, stay with proper grammar, don't use chatspeak, etc. I don't know the prompt, but think of it as you writing to your roommate for the first time. You want to be informal, but you also want to make a good impression and you don't want them to think you are stupid.

Right! I won't be vulgar or use excessive colloquialism. But, do you think it'd be okay to use "wouldn't" and "couldn't" though? How about exclamation points?
