Essay a little over word limit?

Is it acceptable if the essays are above word limit by a little. for example, short essay is ~200 but limit is 150. Long essay is <600.

shouldn't be a big deal about the short one, theyre not going to sit there and count the words. the long essay is perfectly within bounds.

They're actually pretty particular about the commonapp short answer. They want to test whether you can be concise- they're really not looking for a fanciful answer, just an informative one (or at least thats the impression I have).
The long essay doesn't have a word limit (assuming you're talking about the commonapp), so 600 words is perfectly fine.

Your short essay is a bit longer, for sure.
