| Crazy Essays Did anyone get into a sweet school (i.e., highly selective) with a crazy essay? By crazy I mean transgressive of the normal first-person, story-telling, here's what I learned essay. If so, please name the school and describe the content. Thanks! |

| Nice character, Healin. That'll really impress admission offices.
My essay ideas are kind of... creative. I was wondering if anyone had success with an essay that is really, well, out there. Because there isn't a craziness scale, the content response will allow me to appraise the relative craziness of my mine. |

| I'll let you know after I hear a response from the colleges.
I sent a poem, they asked for an essay.
Seems kind of crazy...or maybe just stupid. |

| Supplement-wise. yes. NYU.
Despite my Common app essay being normal-ish, my NYU supplement was off-the-charts crazy. For the question about what organization/club would you start, I think I topped the list... If you're still curious, PM me. It's too unique that anyone with anything similar (...ever again) would be under suspicion for sure.
The general rule is--thinking--Am I comfortable with writing this? Asking others works too. |

| My common app essay was crazy and I got into two reach schools with it. If you have a strange sense of humor like I do, take the risk. |

| "Here's what I learned" would be a "telling" and I would not recommend it or consider it "normal".
It doesn't matter what other people wrote in their essays. What matters is that your essay is personal, detailed, honest and revealing--about you. If "crazy" is you, then write a crazy essay and reveal yourself. If "crazy" is not you, don't imagine that you'll improve your chances of admission by attempting a crazy essay. |

| Yep I wrote a pretty crazy essay for UChicago and got in, but I guess that's a prerequisite for UChicago anyway. |
