Essay Topic- Anatomy

I'm starting to think about my essay for the Common App next year, and I'm pretty certain that I'll chose my own topic. Honestly, I haven't had any significant event happen in my life that would set me apart from any other person my age, so I am considering writing about my experience in my anatomy class. I'm in a medical program at my school that requires that we take anatomy and physiology our junior year; the class is at an actual medical school and we spend about 75% of our time in the gross anatomy lab.

The thing is that I hate the class, and I while I'm digging around in some lady's intestines, I'm usually having a conversation (with a living person, of course) about history or politics. Obviously I would write about the experience in a tasteful way and make a connection between the class and how it's affected my life, but does anyone think it's too weird. I want it to be humorous, not morbid (the backdrop provides some good imagery), but is this unique experience a little too unique for others to understand. I write well enough to pull it off and want to write about something that will catch their attention.

If it makes a difference, I'm apply ED to Rice, and if I don't get in there, I'm looking at Vanderbilt, Wash U in St. Louis, George Washington, William & Mary, and possibly Tulane.

I would advise the humor to be directed at your self. Be respectful of your corpse or you risk offending the reader.
I think a topic that is different is ok. We had the philosophy of helping the readers develop a label for our daughter so that in discussions her app would be recalled easily - Mule Girl. You would be Anatomy Kid or Dissection Essay. It is better than being another Science Kid from NY or Musician from PA. Understand?

I agree that I should direct the humor at myself; I have a deep respect for the people who have donated their bodies, especially compared to a couple of the other people in my class. I'll definitely try to make my essay distinguishable from the others without offending whoever reads it.

If that's what you think will make you stand out in a good way, go for it. From what you've said, your topic seems like it would show a lot about your personality, and be instantly engaging.
