Hey, does anyone think an essay about my past drug use would be a good idea

I could talk about how I grew from the experience or smthing like that lol

just don't know if the admission officers would like it or not

ps I can also talk about my family's rough divorce if i need additional sympathy points

You don't want "sympathy." I think the way you're going about this suggests that you shouldn't write about your drug use. Things like this are always risky- I only suggest it if you absolutely MUST and can find a way to talk about it without being cliched (e.g. "I learned my lesson and will never do it again.") You have to be very careful and make the essay your own if you do so.

I'd suggest you'd find a different topic.

this is a very bad idea. i don't think any adcom would rele be supportive of a drug use essay, and past drug use does increase the chance of a relapse, and colleges don't want that.
