Most people say to write about the passion you have toward you EC's, would it hurt to write on a tangent from that?
This one friend wrote about "frogs" in his essay for NYU, he got accepted.
Can you virtually write anything on your essay, and still make it appeal to the admissions committee, or do you have to write filled with passion toward something?
Seconded. It could definitely be something that has a tangential connection, or none at all, to anything else on your application / resume, as long as it's personal and well-written.
