How do I answer this question?

I have to write several essays to some local scholarships. Most of them ask something like "why do you feel you should receive this scholarship". So what exactly are they looking for in these essays? School-related achievements, community involvement, financial needs, or some sort of involvement with their organization (which, by the way, I had none)?

They are looking for reasons that you should receive the scholarship.

Don't try to figure out what you "should" write. Simply answer the question:

Why do you think that you should receive it?

Uh, if a friend ask me this question, then I would say "because I need the money and I spent the time to apply", but that is probably not a good topic to write about (?).

Obviously, those reasons will not be sufficient in the eyes of the Schoarshp Committee. Can you think of anything meritorious or complimentary that you can honestly say about yourself?
