Average amount of Essays most college applicants have to write?
I have to write about 9, which is weird to me because college books say to get started early on "THE" essay, as if people only have to write one or something. Maybe I should look into the common app, but I don't think any of the schools I'm applying to take it.

"THE" essay for me was my common app essay. i only had to write three main essays (common app & the two UC app essays) & a couple little "why our college is a perfect fit for you" essays

Oh ok. I'm applying to a lot of midwestern state flagships and many don't use the common app, so a lot of them want like 2 or 3 essays each :S

well a lot of times you write one and then tweak it slightly for each college
