There isn't any cliche topic, only cliche essays. If you write all about how you've wanted to be an underwater basket weaver ever since you were a kid you had better write a damn good essay about it. Don't focus your essay on how it's you life long goal; that doesn't tell the college much more about how you can make them prestigious. Colleges want money and prestige so you had better have your essay overflowing with that. About the things you can do.
