When people say ''killer essay'', what do they mean actually? What qualities does a killer essay have to make it so ''killer''?

-vivid, concise writing (!!!); go beyond general statements and make your writing alive
-go beyond cliche essays
-reveal YOURSELF and YOUR personality; must be personal; contractions are welcome
-insightful about yourself
-if telling a story or describing an influence, don't forget to explain its significance and relation to you instead of just describing others
-a sense of humor helps

Making it genuine and actually having a discernible "voice."

What you should do is just talk into some recording device then transcribe it later. Don't worry about editing or preparing it, just start talking about an experience and its effect. With ANY topic, you will end up with a voice, which is what the essay is truly about.
