Is this okay? or will it hurt me?

My personal essay is around 1020 words. I absolutely can not cut it any more or important details that describe who i am will be left out.

Will i be taking a risk if i send this essay with its word count in? or is it alright?

If the essay truly has been "defluffed" already and every single word and sentence you have included is essential to your point, than your essay probably flows well and doesn't feel long. If this is the case, you should be fine sending it in. However, I highly suggest that you go through your essay and ask yourself after each word or sentence, "Am I being purposeful? Is this essential to my piece? If I take it out, will my writing continue to flow?" Anywhere you can cut your essay down, try your best to do so.... but as long as all 1020 words are essential to what you have to say (and words can be pretty without being essential to your argument... keep this in mind...) than you should be fine.

Without reading your essay, however, I can't really say whether or not I feel you should cut it down. You would know better than I would.

Best of luck! I only stress the whole "purposeful" thing because I often find myself being quite wordy and including sentences, phrases and even paragraphs that may sound pretty (or not, ha), but aren't essential to my essay--which is so key. If you can pull off a purposeful piece, it will be powerful, regardless of length... but it is almost always best to say a lot in few words than to say a lot in a lot of words. It takes a lot of skill to do so and you pack more of a punch. Plus, admissions officers will be grateful to see a shorter essay in a massive pile of things to read.

Asheroth is correct. If it is good, they'll read through it. It had better be good though!
