I am applying to colleges for the class of 2014 as well, so you probably don't want me to critique it!

On the subject: If the conflict is really important for you, you could write about it, but since it is a really controversial subject, beware not to pick one side and critique the other side unfoundedly (that is obviously quite imperative for any topic really...), also, try to keep it personal, since that is ultimately most important I believe. Furthermore, you probably aren't going to be the first person ever to write about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, so do try to find your own angle -which you will have if it is important to you.
