There is nothing awful about cargo shorts. Cargo shorts are perfectly normal shorts to wear.

I mean, the only case where cargo shorts are bad is if they don't fit you right, but that applies to any article of clothing (and I definitely do see a lot of people who wear cargo shorts that are clearly too big for them).

True, and some cargos really go for that extreme look where the pockets are gigantic and puffy, but for the most part they look about as slim as khaki shorts, just a little roomier and longer.

I too, do not understand the aversion to cargo shorts... It's a more relaxed look, but it's not bad at all. Anyway, dress however you want. That's what I do.

Cargo shorts look hideous, and are unnecessary. You never end up using the pockets and they add no aesthetic appeal. IMO flat front shorts are much lighter and more comfortable.

jeans are still fine. but i support wanting to look more mature. in the end though it depends what you want to wear. most people at college really dont care what you wear. obviously you want to look good if ur trying to impress someone, but still be who you are

I haven't checked on this thread for a while. This discussion is hilarious. haha.

Thanks for the help guys. I don't have self esteem issues. You'd be surprised to see what I have in my closet. Cargo shorts? I don't think they're that bad. I don't wear them though. The closest thing to cargo short I have are mountain biking shorts. However the pockets are made flush into the fabric and it doesn't look anything like cargo shorts. I think I'll just buy solid color tees, dark jeans, more conservative looking sneakers, and some collared shirts.

I was going to say that, at least where I live, you don't see much of a difference in college students and high school juniors and seniors.

College is such a fun time to experiment with your wardrobe! After high school, I immediately started experimenting more with different styles. There's not really a "college" style, since fashion is highly subjective. Just wear what you want and don't care what others think.

Really?

All I plan on wearing are jeans and a t-shirt. Why? I will pay over 1400 a month for rent w/out utilities. A school hoodie in the winter, if I can afford it.

Chicks are attracted to me all the time. I'd say save formal attire for when it's appropriate but for buy a set of polos when you want to wear them. You should be able to get them relatively cheap. I don't think most people notice brand-names these days unless they're really superficial.

I remember a kid who wore a suit every day to class. I would like it if we were all back in a time period where every boy wore a suit. However, this is 2012 and I live in California. He was in my physics class and stupid. He would be sweating all the time. He'd complain about it. It made him stick out. Don't stick out.

Every time I see someone dressed nice I think "awards ceremony" or "church". Never "they look nice". But yeah, you'll find most people won't care what you wear. Just don't go around wearing a rainbow colored wig and short shorts.

This is a funny thread because I'm wearing cargo shorts right now! XD I'm a girl and many times I'm too lazy to carry a bag so I just stuff my wallet and cell phone in the pockets. So functional!

But I hate it when I get cargo shorts and realize the pockets are fake -__-"

You don't wear cargo shirts on campus. That's #1 rule of college.
