Is taking 18.5 credits the first quarter of freshman year too much

I will be entering into a community college. I am taking these classes (three of these are confirmed):

Communication for Social Change (5 Credits)
English 101 (5 credits)
Chemistry 171 / 181 (6.5 credits)
Choir (2 credits) [it will satisfy my performing arts credits if I decide not get to be a music minor]

I am thinking of a Science major (probably chemistry) + a music minor. I really enjoy studying Chemistry (the course description for that class sounds like an expansion on what I learned from AP chem last year) and singing in choirs. I think social change is interesting too. Essays though are my kryptonite.

I do work. My work's scheduling is very flexible (I can literally ask for a week off if I wanted to).

Is this too much?

I took 18 credits my first semester. I didn't work, but it seems like your choir class should be easy and the rest aren't bad. I always had enough time to hang out over the weekend and during the week.. I probably could have worked a job.

I'm currently taking the minimum 12 units for a full time student at my freshmen year at community college & even thought I'm barely getting by. I know that if I didn't procrastinate so much, I could excel & possibly add 3 more units. I think if you were a pretty self disciplined, organized & responsible student in high school then you might be able to manage. I don't why you would want to overwhelm yourself so much as a freshmen, but I've heard of a couple of older students doing 18+ units & being successful. I just wouldn't add another math or science as that could turn you courseload from manageable to impossible. Time management is key.

Your list seems pretty easy. If you suck at chemistry it might be hell.
