| Should I take "Logic?"
I want to major in anthropology, but I'm also thinking about a philosophy minor. I would have to take Logic for that. Gulp. Should I do it?

Sure, the job market's practically hopping for anthropology/philosophy majors...

I'm taking a logic class currently. It's not bad at all. Don't worry. Just do your reading. Do the practice exercises. Pay attention. Get help if you need it. That simple.

Ok. The other alternates on my list are:
Fundamentals of Acting (just curious)
Research in Anthro (a requirement of the major)
Classics 100 - something about the meaning of life, sounds interesting
History 150 - something to do with sea crossings, sounded interesting!
Women/Gender studies - sex and power
Interdisciplinary studies - a new course about children in Eastern Europe, ties in anthro, poly-sci, education, etc.

WOMEN GENDER STUDIES!
ALL THE WAY!
Ok, but really logic isn't bad. Take whatever you feel most comfortable with.

I guess it's gonna come down to whether or not I decide to get a minor in philosophy....
I mean, I like asking questions like "is everything subjective?," "what is truth?" and "do we <know> anything?"
I like asking "big" questions like that.....

Not sure what an anthropologist actually knows how to do.
Maybe "think critically and write".

Well, an anthropologist can do more than troll on a thread that asks specifically about "Logic," not career opportunities....
Here are real scenarios where an anthropologist would be of need:
A major car company sells two models of vehicles in the Near East. People buy the vehicles, only guess what! One of the models can't fit camels in the back. Big no-no.
Germany sells Pringles. The slogan "Once You Pop You Can't Stop" translates to something very vulgar in German. Another big no-no.

The responses in this thread don't at all contribute to the idea that this site is full of stuck-up know-too-much idiots.
Anyway, I doubt the logic class will be a big deal if you want the minor. If you don't care about getting the minor and you don't want to take the class, you could just take every other class in the minor.
Also, maybe you should double major in history or geography (even archaeology) and anthropology. Just so you have a bit more diversity. I can't seem to find much a anthropology can do job-wise so it might not be the most marketable major and I'd hate to see someone out of a job for getting a degree they want.

Serenity: Do you think I should go for the minor in philosophy? Otherwise I'd probably just major in anthro. We don't have geography or arch majors....we do have a museum studies minor, however....

Go to your library, get a textbook on Introductory Logic like Copi's, look through it and then determine whether or not you like the material and whether or not you can handle the material.

Actually, I used to work for a global healthcare market research company started by an anthropologist who walked away from a tenured professorship. Our researchers did interviews and fieldwork all over the world for pharmaceutical companies. It was qualitative rather than quantitative research. Their language skills and interviewing/fieldwork experience made them valuable, and the pharmaceutical companies paid very high fees for the knowledge they developed.
