No friends, don't want to make any?

So I am a Freshman in a pretty small college and I commute there every day. I have met a couple of people but not really anyone that I like better than my high school friends. The person I met that I like the most and have the strongest friendship with is transferring next semester and everyone else is kind of just classmates at this point. I have never hung out over the weekends or after class with anyone but after looking around I kind of have not seen anyone I am interested in becoming friends with (a lot of them like to drink, do drugs, etc. or there are the international students who are too restrictive). Should I transfer to a school with better kids? Are there people out there? Is going away better? I just feel lonely compared to last year and want to make friendships that are as strong as the ones I had.

Commuting can be a big obstacle to making friends at school. Especially if most kids live on campus. You have to make a bigger effort to make friends. Go to activities and events in the evenings, weekends, etc. That is...if you want to. I'm in a similar position, commuter student with few friends and I'm transferring because commuting just isn't for me. Too stressful, too isolating, and living at home for me isn't working out.
