So I walked into my midterm 50 mins late. No one finished the test, ask for retake?

So I walked into my microbiology midterm 50 mins late, and had 55 mins left to take the test. the test was really hard and no one finished. Would it be a foolish question to go ahead and ask the professor if I can retake the midterm even though it was my own fault? It doesnt hurt to try right? I heard some students slept in and missed the midterm and yet they still had a chance to retake the test. Should I bother talking with my prof on Monday?

You can always ask, but I would be shocked if your prof lets you retake it since it's your fault you came in late.

Yes, and generally if you sleep through an exam, you can't retake it.

For example, in my abnormal psych class, if you miss an exam for any reason other than an unforeseen emergency such as being sick or something happening in your family, you get a 0, no discussion or anything.

You can always bring it up, but I'd angle a discussion more so as to how you can do better on the next exam so you're not trying to seem entitled.

This is going to be tough/tricky. If and only if he is letting people who simply slept through the test take it at another point do you have any chance. I would email your prof before Monday informing him that you have heard rumors about this and wanted to know if it was true because if it is, you would like an opportunity to retake given your late arrival.

It is possible he will say no because unlike the others, you still got a chance to see the exam and he may feel that gives you an advantage.

My gut says the rumors about the prof letting people retake are false though. If they are, you have no shot at a retake, and I think without the context of the rumors, it is rude to ask for one.
