What are some good national social fraternities in the East Coast region.

I know about TKE but Im not white I am indian, and I know that its sort of an 'exclusive" frat on that note.

There a couple local Frats, but what national frats are there that have a pretty good mix of people.

Thanks

first off, TKE is not a good fraternity by any means... in fact they are the laughing stock of the greek world, they are by no means exclusive...

i would say that the top national fraternities are Phi Delta Theta (mine), Sigma Chi, Beta Theta Pi, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Delta Kappa Epsilon

In the south east they are Phi Delta Theta, Sigma Chi, Sigma Nu, Kappa Alpha Order, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Alpha Tau Omega

In the end pledge the fraternity that you want to, as long as its not TKE... "If you cant go greek go Teke"

oh yeah the whole being indian thing really just depends on where you go to school...

    Clemsonbro is pretty dead on.

The indian thing will only be an issue at certain places, you probably know if your school is one of those places.

There are varying areas where each fraternity is strong. Beta Theta Pi (mine) is particularly strong in the midwest, DKE is better in the NE, and so on.

I'd amend Clemson's list to the following:

Phi Delta Theta (Phi Delt), Sigma Chi, Beta Theta Pi (Beta), Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE), Sigma Phi Epsilon (SigEp), Delta Tau Delta (Delt), Sigma Nu, Alpha Tau Omega (ATO), and Phi Gamma Delta (Fiji).

The biggest thing though is finding a house where you are comfortable with the guy. The best fraternity in the country is the one that is best for you.

SAE is pretty amazing no matter what school you go to... DU is big at many schools

Yeah, by no means do I mean to say that those 9 are the only good ones:

Delta Upsilon, Phi Kappa Psi, Kappa Sigma, Pi Kappa Alpha (this should be in the previous list), and Lambda Chi Alpha among others are all organizations with strong national reputations and presence.

Remember even if you are looking for a national frat, they may not have a presence on your specific campus. I think you first have to see what you are working with at your school. If there is nothing that meets your needs are you willing to cross over at another school (may be harder because you will not know any of the members)

You guys are pretty right about the whole feeling comfortable thing. I have a friend who has introduced me to alot of frat brothers and I feel comfortable with them, they have a nice house in the city of manhattan, downtown, but its not a big frat, and there is no house where you actually live in like the big national fraternities and meet so many new people.

There a local frat though not a national frat, so they dont have that large scope. But then again I know these brothers to some degree.

Thing about my school is that it blows when it comes to frats, its a commutter college and I was going to transfer out to a differnt college.

The frat brothers my friend introduced me to go to another commuter college in the city.

What I really wanted was to transfer to a dorm school, to actually Rutgers or Boston University where I could Dorm and join a good frat. I would also be moving up academically, since my commuter school sucks when it comes to reputation. I mean I really want to dorm and have the the full college experience.

The only thing is that I wouldnt know any of ther brothers at a new school If I transfer out to a dorm school.

Plus I just finished my junior yr. I havent applied to any schools as of yet. All the deadlines to transfer for the fall have passed but I will still try.

So that means that if I transfer, I wud have to wait till spring 2007 and rush then and by next spring be able to cross.

So im stuck, I dont know what to do.

so your gonna be a senior in college? and are planning to pledge in the spring?... im not sure how that will work out, i know that at my school it is very rare for a fraternity to pledge a junior so i dont know... also the whole not knowing any of the brothers thing, that sholdnt be a problem... thats the entire point of rush week, to meet the brothers of all of the fraternities on campus

It all depends on where you attend. For instance Chi Psi is not strong nationally but is great at University of South Carolina but horrible at Clemson. Sigma Pi is very strong at Clemson.
I would say that in terms of the southeast the strongest fraternities are (not in order): ATO, KA, Kappa Sig, SAE, Sigma Nu, Sigma Chi, Chi Psi, Sigma Pi Epsilon
TKE is the absolute laughing joke of any greek community. So is Phi Sig.
I've also heard that Beta is pretty good around Texas but I don't really know.
It all depends about what school you go to and what you are looking for in a fraternity. My fraternity is not "huge" but is very reputable and is a perfect fit for me which is what really matters.

SAE is always pretty good. Fiji is sketchy at most schools.

What's wrong with Fiji? I knew alot of guys in that house from undergrad and they seem like a cool group of guys. SAE.....I heard they check your parent's income tax return at my school.

Good point, flgirl. Despite what everyone says on here, TKE is apparently "the" fraternity at my college. It all just depends on the school.
