I always go with the amount of ram included in the price, never do I add more... simply because it's a lot cheaper if you do it yourself. By the time 2gigs for a computer is needed, a gig of ram will probably cost $20. I'd also like to add, why did you go with the core duo 2.0ghz? What will you be using your laptop for that you need that fast of a computer? To be honest, I think you went overboard on this computer and upgraded parts you didn't need.

Thanks for the honest opinions. The reason I did all this is because I can spend up to $2000 on a laptop (excess scholarship money). This did not cost a penny out of me.

If that's the case, then your fine. The only thing is that I would have said to go with a laptop that's smaller, but I don't know if that's a big deal for you. Performance wise it's fine though.

2.0 Ghz is perfectly fine imo, you'll love yourself when you multitask like crazy. Something like surfing online, instant messaging, word document'ing, downloading something, and playing music.

But on the other hand I'd agree that's wayyy expensive. I bought a laptop with the same specs, except the RAM, I have 1 GB ram, for less than USD1000.

We should also keep in mind here the Dell warranties; a Dell laptop's cost can increase by up to $400 by getting 4 year accidental coverage for a Dell laptop.

www.xpbargains.com, for one. Click on the link/tab at the top of the screen for Dell Coupons.

What are you guys talking about?
The 2 gigs of ram (which I agree should have been bought separately, also because you can use 667MHz ram with a Core Duo) costs exta, so does the (2) 9-cell batteries, as does the 7200 RPM HD upgrade.

2 gigs of ram is the optimal amount TODAY, not tommorow, or in another year. Especially if you plan to run vista. 1 gig is the minimum you want to have.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 - This is standard with the E1405, there is no upgrade.

Also, IMO, 14" widescreen laptops are the best size for all situations.

Have you seen a 12" WXGA laptop before?

That's because you bought a 1000t, which is a recently discontinued model (albeit not a bad one).

RobotFOOD, you did NOT get ripped off. People, please do your research before you say such things.

yeah its a bit high price, since i paid $1700 for the E1705 laptop with the 7800gtx graphics card ($2500 before coupons). its a decent deal and you will like the laptop, but the graphics card kinda sucks. Also dont listen to people who tell you to buy a mac, you will be spending a **** load more money for less computing power for an operating system that can run on the E1705 (mac os 10 can run on standard x86 machines, and it runs faster than the fastest apple core duo machine).
