There's a mall in Syracuse (The Carousel Mall). You can also look up factory outlet stores in the upstate NY area if you don't want to spend too much..

syracuse is typically pretty preppy, so if you followed most of the advice on this board you'd be in good shape. Consider buying stuff now, since there are probably pretty good sales on winter clothing b/c it's the end of the season.

h&m is a pretty decent one for 'cute' clothing, or you could check out the 'in' but not 'trendy' look
karmaloop.com
workmens.com
drjays.com
etc.

..or you just ignore the cold. That's what we do in Sweden and it gets pretty cold over here. I'm not saying you should walk around in shorts, were jeans and use wool or, if you can afford it, cashmere (cashmere mixes are cheaper but still warm) jumpers. Actually its quite easy to look cute. Wear several layers of clothes. Use big knitted scarves and cute hats, this winter fur hats (fake or non fake, you choose) were really trendy and they make you look really warm and fuzzy. The most difficult part of your outfit will definitely be the shoes. Either you wear really thick socks (like skiing socks) in your favourite shoes, otherwise try fur shoes. Timberland had some cute boots this winter, and then there are the classic bally curling shoes (although I personally think they are too masculine). I often wear skinny jeans since they are easy to tuck into the boots I wear to avoid the snow..

By all do respect, your use of "LOL" is quite excessive. Plus you won't even have time to dress up in college let alone bathe if your an engineering major hehe. Grab a pair of decent jeans, comfortable cotton hoodie, some sneakers and go!

If it's snowy, you can always wear mukluks for boots. If you wear them right it can look cute (definetly a jeans tucked in or leggings thing) and they're different than Uggs if you don't want those. http://www.fitzjohns.co.uk/Scripts/p...sp?idproduct=2
as an example (albeit an expensive one, but I was just looking for the pic)

Some advice from another (emigrated) Swede : If you do shop at H&M (and many other places, especially if they're inexpensive), make sure you look at fiber content before buying any sweaters; they use a lot of acrylic, which really isn't warm at all, so look for natural fibers. Layering is really the most important part. I usually wear a cotton tank top, fitted t-shirt or light sweater like this cotton v-neck, a fitted North Face fleece, and a knee-length lined wool coat from J. Crew, combined with either pants (jeans or cords) or tights and a cute skirt. Accessorize with an assortment of scarves, gloves, and hats. The light sweater/fleece combination can be exchanged for a hoodie if you prefer that, or a short-sleeved t-shirt over a long-sleeved one (only works with certain styles/colors, though, otherwise it can look very strange); layers are added and subtracted according to temperature. I actually do wear UGGs because I walk a lot and they're insanely comfortable, even though I hate how trendy they are.

| i'm an engineer, and even i have time to spend a little to think about how i wanna look when it's cold out...i'm not metro or anything, it's just i don't want everyone to know i'm an engineer (i.e. North Face jacket haha...no offense, but a lot of times their jackets just far more practical than they are fashionable...EDIT: but the above fitted North Face fleece doesn't look bad).
you can just layer up, with each layer making sense with the other...what i do is i have sort-of thick long sleeve shirts that i wear over my "normal" shirts (maybe under shirts, depending on how it looks). then i throw on a peacoat or track jacket even over that. H&M sounds like a pretty good place to look.

haha you won't even have to worry about winter clothes until at least October. I wouldn't even worry about it now! But if you are buying clothes for the sake of looking cute and warm, I really love my poofy (I don't know if this is the proper term or not) north face. It also looks good with jeans when I am going to class and it keeps me sooooo warm. It was pretty expensive but I wear it all the time.

O yeah, scarves and gloves are good investments for cold weather. Keeping your neck and hands warm can go a long way. Have fun next year! Congrats!

I personally think you should just wait and see what everyone else is wearing. You're going to college in August, not December. You'll have 3-4 months before it starts getting really cold. Plus, now, you won't find any good stuff because it's already spring, and what you do get will be outdated by this winter. Just wait until this fall and buy stuff when you get there. Don't worry so much! Winter weather isn't too big a deal!
