don't ask what we think, it's a personal decision. If you're sitting on the fence about the military from a moral standpoint, it's not for you, if it's political, the military is politically diverse, if it's monetary, the pay aint all that great, but it does come with a lot of benefits.

What service are you looking at.

For me, yes, it would be a waste of 4 years since I have a moral obligation to let people live. For my friend going to the Naval Academy, no, it would not be a waste of time. In fact, I cannot imagine him doing anything else. He's wanted to go to the Naval Academy since he was a little kid. I have another friend who is doing ROTC at Purdue for financial reasons. His stance is that 4 years of service is worth having no college debt. It all depends on your situation.

ROTC is some of the most fun I've ever had. And besides the fun, it's prepared me in so many different ways for things I will face in life. At the end of the day it's not even so much about the military as it is about being prepared for challenges. Not to mention you get in great shape.

Just make sure you don't enlist... non-commissioned sucks compared to commissioned

The BIG question is "do YOU think it's a waste of 4 years?" If you said "probably yes," it's likely not worth it. If you are unsure, do more research. If you said "no," ROTC might be for you.

It is a big commitment, but there are a lot of fine people who love it. The question of whether or not to do ROTC is small compared to whether or not you want to be an officer.

Keep in mind you can do ROTC with no commitment whatsoever to the military. Try it out for a semester if you're really curious and see how you like it. Worse comes to worst you'll get an easy 3 credits for trying it.

I don't reccomend doing it solely for financial reasons. D.Ranger, as long as you know what you're getting into... Good luck!

maybe purely wasnt a good word choice. of course I would like to serve my country but the prospect of getting a free education(not the stuff recruiters tell you at high school for enlisted guys) is a big motivator.

I mean it sounds like a good deal, you get a good amount of money, a free college education, a free military education which to the majority of employers is more important than any degree you could dream if, and you get to kill some arabs also, sounds like good time to me.

If you are thinking of joining because you need money for college and would like to make a difference then join the Americorp instead.

well we should PROBABLY be out of Iraq by 2009 ish or so at most so you should be fairly safe by then, unless we decide to invade Iran or N. Korea. then you're screwed.
