packing.

so im a girl from san francisco, going all the way to new york for college. i just started packing (i leave in ten days), and i have a lot of stuff.

so i was wondering, whats a good amount of stuff to bring...in terms of suitcases and boxes that is.

i have four bigish suitcases and im shipping over two boxes of stuff. but in that is everything i will need...im not waiting to get anything in new york, i figured i might as well just get EVERYTHING here where my parents will pay for it.

so is four suitcases and two boxes unreasonable?

Aren't you going to be paying penalties for extra suitcases? Which may or may not be a concern.

My roommate last year was from Oregon and she flew to VA, but she also came with her mom and a sister, so they could take some of her bags. She shipped a couple of big boxes, and I think she came with...maybe two massive suit cases and a duffel?

If they'll be there, then can't they buy you stuff there? You'll waste more money paying for boxes to be shipped, especially if they are heavy.

Are these 4 actual suitcases or are they duffle bags that can be crunched down in the back of your closet? I hope it's the latter because if they are suitcases that are huge and have wheels and all that, it will be hell trying to find a place for the 1 or 2 that you'll keep with you. I'm assuming that your parents would need suitcases for the clothes they bring for themselves and will take a couple of these giant suitcases back to SF with them. If that's the plan, then it should work. If you intend to keep all of your luggage at school, then I advise that you cut it down to 1 giant suitcase and a couple of duffles that can be stuffed in the suitcase during the year.

nope. they are taking all the suitcases home with them, and i am keeping one small duffel bag with me. and they could buy stuff for me there, but i didnt want to risk not being able to get everything in the one day before i move in. so i got it here when i had plenty of time to run around getting everything.

If they are taking all the giant suitcases, then you have nothing to worry about; take as much clothing and stuff as you have space for .
