| One boy, one girl -- one dorm room Quote: |
(AP) -- Erik Youngdahl and Michelle Garcia share a dorm room at Connecticut's Wesleyan University. But they say there's no funny business going on. Really. They mean it.

What do you all think about stuff like this? Can there really exist trust on this scale or is it generally a bad idea? |

| what is the big deal with "oh my god coed ROOMS!!!!!!!!!! no wayz!!!!" on CC lately?
Seriously, coed rooms are an option on a lot of college campuses, but they're not forced on anybody. If people feel more comfortable rooming with somebody of the opposite sex, or simply want to, why shouldn't they be able to? |

| Exactly what rightnotleft said. On top of that, I think it's perfectly reasonable for colleges to trust students to know when it's going to work to room with someone of the opposite gender. I'm guessing most of the mixed-gender roommate pairs fall into one of two categories:
1. They're very good friends, and they've established very directly and firmly that neither of them will ever want to be more than that, or
2. One or both is gay.
In either situation, allowing them to room together makes perfect sense. |

| ^ I too wish this was an option for me! Other girls tend to be so gossipy and catty and it just gets so old having to deal with it. |

| Couples break up, but rooming with someone who you can hook up with on occasion would be good for some. |

| That was such a stupid article.
I'm a guy and one of my best, oldest (female) friends and I occasionally visit each other's colleges. We stay in each other's dorms and we've slept in the same (twin-sized) bed together and it was fine. These days, people are just more comfortable being physically and emotionally close to people of the opposite sex.
Making a big deal out of mixed-gender (or gender-neutral, as Penn calls it) housing is like making a big deal out of two LGBT individuals rooming together. Just because two people are capable of being sexually attracted to each other that does not mean it is necessarily inevitable or even awkward.
(And to bigb99 - your post made me think of relating the title to 2 girls 1 cup... but now it's 1 boy, 1 girl, 1 cup... haha) |
