I laid some serious mack down...on my roommate. That freaked him out enough to move out and I had a double all to myself for the semester. Not something I am too proud of but whatever.

Our orientation was 2 days in June, and me and my mom skipped out on a lot of it. We didn't need to do the campus or dorm tours (I'd gone to sports camps here all through school so I knew the dorms, and could have given the campus tour because I knew where everything was), we didn't go to the 2-hour long fin aid/payment process meeting--we went in and met in person for 15 minutes with the lady in the receivables office, and we didn't stay in the dorms overnight. The dorms were like $50/person/night plus meals, and it was cheaper for us to drive an hour each way than pay the money.

The 2nd day we went back, I scheduled for classes, and we went to the mall and bought some stuff for my dorm.

I moved into dorm a week before classes began. On move-in day, I got lost and went into the wrong dorm (I know...how stupid). Anyway, I finally found the right dorm and my room (which was on the 5th floor and had to take the stairs). It was so hot that day, so by the time I got to my room I was sweating like a pig. However, my roommate was awesome and we hit it off right away. I met alot of new people that night and the rest of the week. For the rest of the week our school had programs for freshman, like new student convocation. Basically, you hear the president talk for a while and then you walk around checking out the organizations and what's around campus while eating and listening to music.

First day of classes was on a Tuesday, so I had 3 classes to go to starting at 8am (eeek). I loved my English and Japanese professors and I thought my Psych professor was strange (lol). The week before class I walked to the buildings that all my classes were being held in so I wouldn't get lost--very helpful. I actually met my best friend on the 2nd day of classes! All in all, I enjoyed my first day (or shall I say first week) of college.

I moved in on Wednesday and didn't actually start class until Monday the following week. My roommate, who I knew, was on vacation and didn't move in until Sunday night, so the move for me was fairly easy.

I remember missing all of my friends in the afternoon when I sat bored as hell at my computer desk, but that night I stumbled upon a couple guys, who I would later become best friends with. We ended up splitting a bottle and the rest is history - ahhh the first day.

The day I moved in, it was raining pretty heavily. This was of course quite annoying, since I got drenched. In part, this was due to how much time I spent in the rain, dragging in the excessive amoiunt of stuff I brought. Then, once I got all of my crap inside the building, I spend a while setting my room up and cramming it in as best I could, while still leaving the most important stuff readily accessible. Then I tried, fruitlessly, to get my computer to connect to the campus network, which ultimately required technical assistance the following day. Beyond that, I met in person a couple of girls I'd become friendly with via Facebook, neither of whom I ever really had anything to do with again. It was really pretty uneventful, as were the subsequent few days, as I was on campus for roughly a week before classes started.

at my school we have a 5-6 day orientation depending on which day u move in. so i moved in at like 3 while it was pouring outside and became amazed at how big my dorm was!!biggest one on campus (if only that was true for this upcoming year too!lol) my roomie had moved in a few days earlier b/c she was international so her side looked fine and mine looked sooo plain. we also have FrOGs (first year orientation guides) who lead the freshies around that first week, so at like 5 my hall went to dinner and i started meeting people, and i was glad that most of them seemed down to earth, minus a few sketchy guys. I'm kinda shy, so i was nervous be4 i got there. my roomie was off with her international friends though so i hardly saw her at all the 1st day. we all went and saw the movie blades of glory at our free theater on campus at like midnight and then crashed out once we got back. overall, it was a pretty good day. a few people in my hall became my best friends in college over the past year, including my roomie.
And now i'm a FrOG, so as for the advice thing, i have to get used to answering lots and lots of questions!lol. i'd say try ure best to be outgoing and dont be afriad to introduce ureself and strike up convos. whether u know people at ure school or not, everyone is nervous about meeting new people, so just put ureself out there. and get involved with any orientation activities ure school has b/c they r really fun usually and open u up to new experiences and even more people!!

LOL Chamilitary, that's one day to get some privacy. I still don't know who my roomie is or where I am staying so I can't even imagine what my first day will be like.

Well for the PSU honors college, you move in a few days earlier than the rest of the freshman for a scholars orientation, so I was there for a bit more than a week before classes started.
When I first arrived, I had to get my key and find my room, which was great because I was actually slightly below ground and didn't need to use elevators to lug all of my stuff.
I then found out, along with my roommate, that our room was one of a precious few that had a back porch door. That was pretty sweet. After moving everything in and stopping at Wal-Mart with my parents, I said good bye to them and started to get to know my roomie.
He was really cool, and also from Pittsburgh, and we luckily had a lot in common.
It was slightly awkward just sitting there on opposite sides of the room with our backs turned to each other, so we switched around the room's layout (I remember it being a somewhat big thing that we could actually move our things around as they weren't bolted to the ground.)

The rest of orientation week was truly great. There were tons of events including convocation, a cookout type deal, honors groups and broomball!
Broomball is sort of like ice hockey on feet without any protection. I played goalie and got pretty messed up. My roommate chipped a tooth!

First day of classes were fine, if a little bit overwhelming. PSU main is a huge campus, much bigger than I've ever been to before, and finding classes was a challenge. I did learn a lot about he campus bus system, although I still walk most places.

Alpha---PSU has broomball too??? It is hands down, my favorite intramural at my school! I've played it every semester including summers, usually on a female team and a co-ed team! Except I don't think anyone's chipped a tooth--we have to wear the full cage helmets they give us...other than that, pads are optional.

Greatest. Intramural. Ever. (NCAA Bracket Challenge is a close second).

I'm not actually sure if it's an intramural, although there are tons up there, so it very well might be.
Moreso, I get the impression that people just gather in groups and play it, without much in the way of rules, at least that's the way it's been when I've been invited to go.
Also, where helmets may be required for IM, we didn't use them.
Agreed though, it's an enormously fun sport. Good, good times.

As soon as me and my family drove up to my dorm I had people screaming. Immediately I had several people come up to our car and help move my stuff up to the fourth floor. I had several people already saying hi to me. They knew my name, and I had never even seen them in my life. My advisors took me to the Master's house, where I met the O-week coordinators, RA's, Masters, and college Coordinator, all who knew my name. Then the college historian took my picture. I also got a bag with goodies and a shirt. After we moved all my stuff to my room, which took like 10 mintues with all the help that we got, we had breakfast with everyone at our dorm and our families. We saw a skit of stereotypical people at school and then said goodbye to our families. The rest of the day we spent with our advisors and our O-week groups. And this was the beginning of the the best week of my life. So much fun. I love RICE and its unique O-Week.

drove up to boston that morning with my mom and my aunt (my brothers had work/school and my dad was in brazil for my cousins wedding). it was SWELTERING out but there were people just waiting there to help me take all of my stuff up which was very nice.

my roommate was just sitting in the room then, which i thought was strange cause she had been there for a couple of days so i figured she would be with new friends. got a weird vibe that it wasnt going to be as perfect as expected but hten we spent like 3 hours tlkaing and i was fine about it.

just met people the whole night. next morning was the first football game where we wandered looking for "tailgates" and "parties" cause we had no idea how things worked at BC. realize now that i clung onto roommate too mcuh and shouldve met more people from the hall. just relaxed that weekend, tired to meet my kind of people, and classes started the next tuesday.

im already excited for soph move-in and the start of the year becuase i KNOW its going to be so much more comfortable and fun even though i am in a less than ideal situation with rooming and my friends. (but who knows anything can happen!)

If any of you moved in before your roommate, did you pick the side of the room you wanted or waited till your roommate gets there? (assuming you guys were moving in the same day)
