how many of you snore really loudly?

Occasionally I am told I snore really loudly, from parents, and my last set of roommates about five years ago. At one point it apparently got so unbearable that my roommates (when I was 12) woke me up by beating my head over with a pillow. (Playfully though annoyedly, not violently.)

Since the last set of complaints, I'm not sure if I've stopped.

BUT

This issue must be common. Is it ever major?

Research sleep apnea and speak to your doctor about it. If that's what's causing snoring, sleep apnea is unhealthy. It can cause you oxygen deprivation during sleep, which makes you very tired even after plenty of hours of sleep. It can be tested in a sleep clinic, and there are therapies for it, including a machine to keep the oxygen flow correct at night.

Sometimes it's caused by sinus congestion and might be treated with something for allergies and such.

Otherwise, buy your roommates earplugs and ask for mercy.

i'm usually a really heavy sleeper, but if i do happen to wake up, i can never fall back asleep so if i had a roommate who could wake me with his snoring, that would probably be an issue for me -- but theres not much you can do about it so ask them to wear earplugs i guess

^ It's hard to fall asleep with earplugs on because it's too quiet. I find that other people's snoring, as long as it's not too loud or too random (like short bursts of snoring...) actually helps me fall asleep faster.

Sleeping on your back can sometimes cause your tongue to obstruct the breathing pathway, creating less-than-attractive sounds when it is moved out of the way by airflow. Try sleeping on your side.

I talk in my sleep. Like properly, and not in gibberish or anything.
It's pretty embarrassing.
