How do you guys feel about that? Do any colleges offer thanksgiving style meals or what do the students that live too far away to go home do over thanksgiving?

I know a number of people who are planning on staying on campus for Thanksgiving. Unfortunately all of the dining halls are shut down from Thurs-Sat so I guess they expect students to go off campus to find food and/or make it themselves...Same thing happened during fall break.

Some colleges may offer a Thanksgiving-style meal catered by a local restaurant/caterer for a price for lunch on Thanksgiving or another day. Otherwise, pretty much all dining halls and food establishments are closed so students staying on campus have to stock up on ramen and food from the supermarket.

I don't know anyone who's staying except my RA, but that's because she's having an event...


...which is a thanksgiving dinner event for those that are staying here. So yeah there are kids around here that stay.

we're not allowed to stay on campus for thanksgiving--the dorms close wednesday morning. i wouldn't want to stay, anyway--i need a break & i love my mom's mashed potatoes

i think they kick you out of the dorms. that's when students go visit their friends or relatives a bit closer.

it depends on the school. i'm staying on campus for thanksgiving and the school is hosting a thanksgiving event (but i'm not going; i have family in this city). anyway i'm totally into it, my roommate and suitemates are going to their respective homes so i have the suite to myself for a few days, which is going to be awesome.

well if I live in LA so if I ended up going to nyu [like a would kill to go to], I have no one, no acquaintences in the 5000 radius, and my family prob. couldnt afford to fly me home for xmas AND thanksgiving, since t-giving is only a few days, it doesnt make sense economically. Floor dinners it is =]

How do you find it awesome? When I'm the only one in the suite I'm usually bored out of my mind...

It is common for students to remain on campus during Thanksgiving at Northwestern University since it is such a short break & many students are far from home. There is, however, a traditional snow skiing trip to Colorado during this break, but students must find their own transportation & pay costs.

I'm going to have three days of total privacy, the ability to walk around in my underwear, and the joy of having the guy I'm seeing over without having to worry about whether or not someone is going to come home.

Trust me, it is awesome.

I'm having a different problem. I have family friends really nearby my school (not even a 2 hour bus ride; and the tickets are cheap), but my parents (home is too far) want me to stay on campus.

They say that I don't need a break, and should just study.

Idk how close you are to your family friends but generally, if your family friends invited you over, then go. It would be rude not to and stay by yourself. If your parents say no just tell them that you were being polite. If there was no invite, then it would be rude to just how up unless you are very close.

we ARE very close families, and they did invite me
but my parents have issues about "losing face"
I went to their place for fall break, and they don't want for me to make it a habit by going there again for thanksgiving
It is extremely frustrating trying to talk to my parents

When I tell them that I need a break, they tell me that it is my duty to study, and that if I do want a break, it's better to transfer to a school close to home.
