Aero-Obviously, I agree with you regarding Muscle's worthless post. But, as a Catholic, isn't it hard to belong to a religion whose tenets you don't totally accept? I mean, if it's partially wrong, how could it be from God?

Collegebound-I have a daughter about your age and I really do understand your reasoning. You can only give your body, for the first time, once. Sex within the context of marriage is meant to be an elevated, sacrosanct experience, where the two become one flesh. Once the act becomes something common, it's no longer special, a gift from God shared only between you and your husband. I guess you'd have to trust me when I tell you that comparison to other partners, jealousy, diseases (testing will only tell you what you have after you have it), potential (if unlikely) pregnancies, inappropriate levels of attachment are factors that you may only come to appreciate after the fact. I always tell my daughter that there are some bells you can't unring-and this can be one of those. And, added to all of the foregoing is the fact that God gives us specific warnings against this practice. I'd like to think He knows best!

ginab, thats really not true. at all. what you see is the "crazy" protestants who display the fact that they want to wait as the center of their dinomination, and even their life. its kindof weird. im chrristian too and am against sex before marriage, and i know why you think that. its b/c catholics, or at least more so than some of the wackier protestants, don't wear their views on their sleeves.

Muscle, posts like yours don't contribute at all. At the very least have the intelligence to come up with an argument of your own.
| A Christian lecturing about intelligence and thinking on our own. Hilarious. Quote: |
Muscle-I fear that we've diverged a bit too far from topics that are appropriate and helpful here. But, just fore record, Carlin's rant is no more tolerant than the religions he decries. You guys really need to stay off those lefty sites
| His rant has nothing to do with tolerance. He's just being blunt about how retarded it is to believe in Christianity. Well, any organized religion.

Muscle-Clearly only stupid people beliieve in God:
Though he is better known for his love of science, the Bible was Sir Isaac Newton's greatest passion. He devoted more time to the study of Scripture than to science, and he said, "I have a fundamental belief in the Bible as the Word of God, written by those who were inspired... But, I guess at age 18? you have it all figured out?

| He also lived 300 years ago, so he's excused. And I'm 21.

Muscle-okay 21...You'd have to admit there's still lots to learn and there have been many brilliant people since Newton who were/are believers. It's not really intellectually honest to correlate faith with IQ. But, it's okay. I was 21 once myself |

Oh right, because life experience will allow me to see the light and believe the stories in some ancient book. Some brilliant people believe, sure. Brainwashed brilliant people.
And I can't really blame you, either. I was once Christian myself. I guess it just takes some of us longer than others.

I'm not a Christian (okay, technically I'm half Jewish, half Episcopalian... but I was raised and consider myself a very reform Jew), but I am planning to wait for sex. Not necessarily till marriage, but till I'm in a commited relationship. It's not about God or religion for me. It's about not wanting to do something that I'll regret, and if I have sex with someone I'm not in a commited relationship with (someone I've known for only a few hours or days), there's definitely a chance that I'll regret it- not only the emotional ties, but also the chance of pregnancy and STDs. I want my first time to be special, and I don't think that's so weird.
