Community Bathrooms?

Can someone explain to me how community bathrooms work? I'm curious of the details (i.e. do you bring clothes into the shower with you? Towel? Do people stand there and change in front of each other? Do you walk back to your room in a towel? etc.).

Also, I'm relatively lucky in that my dorm room has large closets in the middle of the room, dividing it in half with a bed on each side. In the average room where it is just a simple square room, do roommates usually change in front of each other? I would think that would be awkward, but I guess I might be more body-conscious than some.

Thanks.

yeah i think u r a little body conscious. but u just bring ur shower shoes and ur shower caddy into the bathroom and u leave the bathroom in a towel because there usually isnt room for u to get changed. if ur nervous about changing infront of ur roomate just tell them and work somethin out. Also, its not like there will be ppl of the oposite gender in the bathroom (i think) so u really have nothin to be ashamed of cuz u got the same parts as everyone else.

I went to Brown last summer and it had community bathrooms. Its not bad at all. Usually I'd bring my boxers and soap, toothbrush, cream, etc. into the bathroom. After my shower, I'd just walk out in my boxers and down the hall to my room. I did that mostly just to show off my six-pac, but even the kids that were a little chubby did it as well. My roomate often came out of the bathroom in his flannel pajamas, but he was really weird.

Are you a girl or a guy?

    Thanks for the responses.

I'm a guy and really not as body-conscious as this thread might lead you to believe. I just find it weird to get out the shower completely naked and change with a bunch of people around. Never even do it at the gym and I've always thought it a little strange when other people do. I'm not overweight either...just not used to it I guess.

    Anyone else?

Yeah I never got out of the shower naked. I'd always put my boxers right next to the towel on the rack. I'd just dry off my lower body and walk out with my boxers on. I think thats what most people do.

Do colleges generally have those communal showers like in gym class?

I actually live in a dorm that has co-ed bathrooms. You get used to it... obviously no one walks around naked.

They walk around topless in the female dorms. Females don't care about each other's boobs at all so its no big deal.

Co-ed bathrooms are pretty weird. You walk in to take a pee and see a girl at the mirror right next to the stall. So you've got to aim at the area of the bowl that's not covered in water so as not to make too much noise. The showers in my college are like airplane bathrooms. They're tiny and the door completely closes. There's enough room to wear some clothes, but they'll probably be damp.

What most girls did in the community bathroom on my hall was take a bathrobe with them. They'd dry off in the shower, reach an arm out to grab the bathrobe, put the bathrobe on while they were still in the shower stall, and then go out into the main part of the bathroom.

    to the op:

most college showers are individual stalls. Don't worry about it. It's not like gym class is you're worried.

At the gym, the women just bare all in the locker room. And it isn't the women who have something to show off either. At first, I was shocked/disturbed/perturbed/etc... but I got used to it. I know gym locker rooms aren't the same as community bathrooms but I think you eventually get used no matter how bathroom shy you are.

Plus, the older you get, the less self conscious you become. I used to be extremely embarrassed to change a maxi pad in a public restroom because I didn't want anyone else to hear the rustling of the wrapper and know that I was on my period. Now, I could care less because as trite as it might sound, all females get their period so it's really no big deal.

Now having to do a number 2 when other people (ie your peers/dorm mates) are in the community bathroom, that seems hard to get used to. Any comments specifically on that?

Its kind of like the maxi pad thing. Everyone does it so its no big deal. You adjust to that fast. (U kind of have to). But I still go to the bathroom when there are as few people in there as possible.

Dropping a duece when other people are in the adjacent crappers when you are a dude is pretty sweet. You get compliments if it sounds really cool or you get people going "DAAAMMMNN" if its a pretty explosive part of the dook or it has a high splashback factor.

lol as a lifetime sausage handler hearing that described as 'trite' is amusing (not that I dispute)
