November 1st Deadline

For my early decision colleges, the deadline for application submissions is November 1st. Does this mean I have send my on-line application by 11:59 pm Sunday, November 1st, or by 11:59 pm Saturday, October 31st? thanks

Better to be safe than sorry, send it days earlier than the deadline.

    why would you risk it?
have it in before the deadline and then you wont have to worry. but if it is an online application, the website will usually close down submissions on its own automatically so figure it out asap.

I also want to know... why are people saying "don't risk it"? That's obviously not the answer you are looking for. I am pretty sure its a postmark deadline, meaning that you can submit it on that day. Call the admissions office of the school to which you are applying to be sure.

If you call, many times you will get an automated answer, and you will be able to inquire about their admissions deadlines without dealing with a representative. If it says November 1st is a postmark deadline, then you can mail it on the first, just make sure you get it stamped that day (don't just drop it in the mailbox, take it to the counter and get it physically stamped). November 1st is a Sunday, though, so make sure your post office is open.

it's due on nov 1 11.59 pm. that's from my experience common app, with regular deadlines. like due on jan1, means jan 1 11.59.. and some of them are on hawaii timezone or something.

It means 11:59 on Sunday, November 1st, because up until midnight, it is still the 1st. This is if you're using the Common App or some other form of on-line submission. The reason you shouldn't wait is that so many people wait until the absolute last minute (I will confess, I was one of them last year for RD), that the Comman App site gets overloaded and can crash, and it might not let you upload essays or submit your application because the insane amount of traffic is messing it up.

By the way, Common App runs on Eastern time (at least it did last year, you might want to double check that it does this year as well), so make sure you factor that into your plan.

Take my word for it, on Monday, November 2nd, there will be threads all over CC, "OMG, submitted app at 12:03, will I B OK?!?!?!??!" Don't be one of those people; trust me, I was there last year, and it isn't fun.

As 199709 said, if you are submitting your app by snail mail, you just have to have it postmarked by the 1st. However, as that is a Sunday, most post offices will be closed, and you'll probably have to send it tomorrow. Do you really want to spend your Halloween scrambling to throw together and send off your app? Try to get as much done tonight and tomorrow morning as you can.

    Good luck!

I thought the same thing too [deadline is 11:59:59pm on November 1st], but...my friend just called the University of Maryland admissions office and they said that 11:59pm tonight [october 31] was the latest they'd accept apps online [even though their deadline is november 1].

I'm doing Yale EA, which is also Nov. 1...is it possible that the midnight tonight deadline is unique to UMD? has anyone here successfully applied to a school the day that applications were due?

chibistar6: when you say University of Maryland is that for the College Park campus or Baltimore County?

^He probably means College Park, and I'd suggest you hurry up and finish that application just in case ;)
