I just brought a week's worth of clothes, so that the luggage isn't too heavy. There was a Target close to my school so I could buy clothes there.

I love reading these lists!
I move into my dorm in 68 days...so it's still a ways off, but it's getting here.
Thankfully, I'll only be about an hour and a half away from home, so if I need anything from home, it'll be easy to get. Either my parents will come up and visit and bring it, or I'll go back home for the weekend and bring it back.
My older brothers had it better though. They went to college in town, so were only 10-15 minutes away from home if they needed anything at all.

Ok this list is retarded. You don't need all that stuff. It just highlights what a consumer oriented society we have. Why would you need all that stuff?

I definitely find this list helpful. I like to be organized and prepared for just about anything.

bwm-I think it's more of a "check and see if you've forgotten anything you need" list. No one is suggesting you take everything on that list...you'd need a quad all to yourself.

Okay, I made it through the whole thread, taking notes along the way.
One thing I plan to send with my boys is a set of little drawers we've had for years that we used to organize the little tiny toys, etc in their room. There are three different size drawers, from large enough to hold a roll of duct tape to smaller drawers with dividers that make them perfect for paper clips, etc. I think that will nicely hold a lot of the smaller items we feel are needed from the checklist.
Something to add though...iPod charger, cell phone charger, laptop charger, etc. Even though you CAN charge your iPod through your computer it's more efficient to use a wall charger. Plus you can still listen to it while it's charging that way. (Although you obviously couldn't move around if you were listening with headphones/earbuds, but if you have speakers for it you're good.)
Oh, and swim goggles are on the list, but I didn't see swimsuit!

College ruled. That's all they sell at my college bookstore. Which was annoying because I wanted wide ruled because I take Chinese and wanted more space to write my characters, because it's difficult to write complicated characters in those margins and make it readable. But besides that I exclusively use college ruled because you can fit more in.
