Nope. I didnt see that. But if they are gonna teach safe sex... they might as well teach gun safety. As for guns being bad up North I cant say its everywhere. But I am from Chicago and the word gun brings out the police real fast. As for these kids I see they are bringing all kinds of stuff. Do any of you use a firewall or run antivirus programs? Do any of you use a condom? Keep a fire extinguisher in case of a fire? A gun is the same thing. In case of violence...

I moved in today, and I haven't forgotten anything. I mean, like nothing. I got everything covered, from shower flip-flops to a desk lamp to paperclips to a stapler. I don't have to go shopping last-minute for anything I might have forgotten. I know it sounds really anal and weird to be happy about not forgetting any little anything, but I'm happy anyway. It was just more convienent for everyone.

Gatman....alright you keep using the analogy that guns are used for safety purposes, like a seatbelt, virus protection, etc....BUT those things ONLY protect ppl...a gun can work in reverse...

Using a gun can usually protect yourself from harm but that doesn't mean that it will protect the people around you. Shooting and killing someone that attacks you is never justified unless they are trying to kill you. Attackers are hardly ever sentenced to death.

I am not some gun-free activist, and I agree that guns can be useful, but don't compare it with a seatbelt...A seatbelt has never killed anyone, but a gun has.

Haha I totally sound like some hippy freak but it really bothers me that people can toss around the idea if killing someone so freely...ANYWAYS great list, and I am copy/pasting right now......

How much clothing are you guys bringing? I know storage is limited, but .... how limited?

You can likely find out how many drawers and how much closet space is available in your assigned dorm just by calling the housing department of your school. Also, lots of students store stuff under their beds.

How many people are actually bringing a safe or lock-box for their money, ipod, laptop etc. And if you are, wouldn't it have to be a really heavy one that no-one can walk away with.

My son took a footlocker and chained it to his bed frame. It's nice to use for transporting stuff to college, and then it's good for storage. It probably will attract less attention than an actual safe.

Hey thanks lkf725. We did not think it was necessary, but are now panicking at the last minute. Did your son use a bicycle chain through the handle of the locker? So one lock on the hasp, and then another through the chain?

He bought a length of link chain from Home Depot and looped and locked one end onto the bed frame and the other onto the hasp. You could probably also just thread both ends of the chain onto the lock when you put it onto the hasp. He got a slightly heavier duty lock than a typical one you would see on a school locker, and it has a four rolling number combination rather than a dial. The handles are very heavy leather...probably 1/4 inch thick...but we reasoned that it could be cut. My son just slides his under his bed, but it would make a handy nightstand, too. The footlocker itself is very sturdy and nicely made. We also got the basic wheel kit that allows you to pull the footlocker along, which was much appreciated on move in day! The company ships the next day after ordering, and it arrived very quickly and very well packed. I recommend them.
