best place to buy xl twin bedding?

edited June 2010 in College Life
Hey everyone. I apologize if this question has already been asked, but this is my first post here, so I am unaware if this subject has been brought up before.

But can anyone tell me where they bought their college bedding? I've been looking for xl twin complete bedsets and they're pretty expensive from Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, and Amazon.

But it may be because I'm picky. I'm not looking for the plain solid colored or striped bedsheets. I actually want a cute design.

(I'm gonna be a freshman in the fall, so that's why I'm all excited on decorating my dorm. lol. Excuse my annoying high school mindset. I just graduated a few days ago haha)

I found my stuff separately, not in a set. My sheets were from TJ Maxx, and my fleece blanket was from the Bon Ton home store.

I am getting mine from Target. My comforter is $50 and my sheets and pillows will probably come to $50. I didn't think it was that expensive. Then again, I'll be using it for at least four years.

My S actually won his comforter set in a silent auction at Project Graduation last week. It's a complete Tommy Hilfiger twin set with extra-long sheets. I was glad to see him do that.

^^ $100 on bedding? Wow! I think I spent $50 total! I got 2 sets of sheets for $10 each, 2 pillows for $10, and my fleece blanket for $20!

You people are crazy. Two sets of sheets for $10? Are they like... 50 thread count? I'm not looking at high thread counts, but I've never seen a set of sheets cheaper than $15 even at Walmart. I am spluring on a $50 comforter but even then, I can't imagine finding any kind of decent pillow for less than $20 a piece. Maybe I just live somewhere where bedding is expensive. I got a Bed in a Bag from Kmart four years ago and it was nearly $100.

I kind of think the whole XL thing is a scam. My twin sheets (NOT XL) fit perfectly. You can always just buy a queen size if you plan on having a queen bed after moving out of the dorms. I think the XL thing is really just another way for places to make an extra buck. The mattress may be longer, but all of the regular twin sheets I owned fit fine, stayed on and everything. So if you have regular twin, just bring it. If you have queen sheets, just bring those. It's not a big deal if they're too big. It's not really worth going out and buying a new set of sheets and comforter for one or two years of dorm life, but I try cut back my spending as much as possible so I have going out/entertainment money.

Oh, and I got 100% cotton sheets, 100 or 150 thread count, for 9.99 at Burlington coat factory. great place to buy bedding, as is department stores like Ross, TJ Maxx and Marshalls. Also check clearance at big department stores during big sales. You can find bedding really cheap if you look. I found a twin down comforter (which was ironically TOO big for my bed at school, even though the mattresses were twin XL) on sale for 29.99, sticker price of 119.99, at Kohl's during a huge doorbuster. My advice is that you rarely have to pay regular price for college stuff.

Do you live in CA? Things in general are more expensive there. A lot of inflation. I have family there and it just surprises me how big of a price difference there is. What stores do you shop at? If you shop around you can find some killer deals. Then again I am pretty cheap and won't pay sticker price for most items, with the exception of going out.

Yes, Ross does have some pretty good bedding and home selections in general. I got mine at Target. It was part of a bed in a bag set that including a comforter, sheets, bed skirt, and pillow cases. I think it was maybe $60 total and the most expensive thing I bought as far as moving out goes.

Check your bedding at home before you buy stuff, though. Your sheets might work just fine, or there might be some hidden away that were never used.

No...they are actually high thread count, high quality sheets. I bought them at TJ Maxx, $10/set.

I got my pillows at Kohl's. I'm extremely picky about pillows, and mine worked just great!

Why spend more money than you have to?

I got my pillows from Marshall's for $5 each. They were on sale and are awesome.

My sheets I got from BBB and I don't know how much they were. If you can't find what you want you could always get solid sheets but mix and match colors and get a cool patterned comforter.

I'm usually very frugal, I guess I'm just not good at looking for cheap bedding. We don't have a TJ Maxx or Marshall's here, which might be an issue. We do have a Ross but it's not particularly well-kept.
