I am a National Merit Finalist and thinking about applying to either Univ. of Oklahoma or Univ. Central Florida, because they have both large scholarship packages for NMF and the degrees I want. I'm looking at majoring in anthropology, history, and/or English lit. So...

1) Which college has the best NMF program?

2) Which college has better anthropology and history programs?
I'm most interested in Native American studies, museum and archival work, Southeastern stuff, folklore/mythology, and archaeology/human prehistory. Obviously, I'm not expecting either school to have all of these.

3) Which college has the best academic atmosphere?

College decisions are really stressing me out right now...I'd appreciate any help with these questions!

If you're interested in Native American studies then OU is probably the better choice.

Start following the colleges' websites and newspapers to get a sense of what happens on campus and the general focus of activities. Also start looking at their actual class schedules to see what is being offered. Sorry I don't have any definitive answers.

I'd vote for OU (well, considering that I am from Durant ) For OU you will benefit from Early Enrollment, Honors College, Study Abroad Opportunities, Special Advising Privileges, Open-Door Policy, Scholarship Package plus $$$.

Central florida has a better college atmosphere and is in a town with many internships/opportunities

^ Have you ever been to Norman OK?? It sounds like you have not. IMO the main reason most people haven't compared the colleges directly is they haven't been to both.

U of Arizona has a $30,000/year package for NMFs. I'd expect them to have much more extensive programs in Native American studies, but its NMF "program" seems to be lacking, at least compared to Oklahoma and UCF. On that front, Oklahoma's seemed the most extensive to me in my research. They have an entire office devoted to NMFs and their success on campus.

As far as academics, UCF is very pre-professional. Oklahoma seems more academic, but not enough to be noticeable.

There are some schools that are generous with merit aid for those with high SAT scores

For example:

University of Alabama
Tulane
University of Miami

Maybe USC (not sure on that one)

Also, I am not sure if they are good in the majors you are considering.
