Most well known British universities in the states?

Hey, I'm currently studying in the UK as an international student am in year 12 (junior equivalent i believe). I really want to stay in the UK for undergraduate studies because i am definitely sure of which subject(s) i would like to major in and don't want to study loads of different ones.

I want to work in the states in the future and was just wondering, which UK universities are most well known in the states APART from of course Oxford and Cambridge. Also can you rank them in order of most well known to not so well known.

Maybe Edinburgh and then also Saint Andrews because of the royal family?

Actually, in general, I would say ONLY Oxford and Cambridge. In fact more Oxford than Cambridge -- in terms of name recognition of course, nothing else.

If you want to work in the US, you should go there for college. Cambridge and Oxford are relatively well know in the US, while LSE has an OK reputation on Wall Street and Imperial an OK reputation in Silicon Valley. No other British university is known in the US.

So outside of NYC/Silicon Valley:
Cambridge
Oxford

On Wall Street:
Cambridge
Oxford
LSE

In Silicon Valley:
Cambridge
Imperial
Oxford

I think most people outside of Wall Street would never think of the London School of Economics so that's a narrow group. I would consider Edinburgh as a "sometimes" known British school.

From asking around, (bar oxbridge) its St. Andrews, Edinburgh and LSE in no particular order. Saying Imperial has an OK reputation (even in silicon valley) is laughable

In the UK, Imperial is ranked just one down from Oxbridge (along with LSE depending on subject). Imperial is a target university for IBs in the UK and in asia its widely known and respected.

How well known in America is another story which i can't answer seeing as i am not from the states

Other than Oxbridge and LSE, I was going to say UCL.

Your graduate school will matter more than your undergrad. Just get into a university that has the best reputation possible to increase your chances of going to Harvard or Yale for grad school.
