Almost all of the highly selective colleges that are not on a coast will take just the ACT.
| There is not a college in the country that will not take the SAT...

osucowboys: why are you hating on UTD? Quote: |
Students in Texas don't really take the SAT so I'm not sure if that's entirely relevant, either.
| I'm sorry but what school do you go to where students "don't really take the SAT?''
I mean back when I was a high school student in Texas, everyone I knew took the SAT, whereas only most of the people I knew took the ACT. Quote: |
But even if they are..that just means that the UT-Richardson kids score very low on a different test..the one where they have to pick a good college.
| So, according to you, my class' saludictorian, who could've very easily have gone to UT or Rice or probably a good portion of the Top 20, made an unwise decision in picking UTD?
I think she made a wise decision. She wanted to go to a school that's close to home, has good hard science programs and gave her a good FA package (full scholarship + stipend).

Alaska!
UA-Fairbanks: The "main" UA school. They're known for rejecting everyone with a GPA over 2.5, and admitting everyone else. The campus is absolutely lame, with basically no trees and no fancy architecture. I think their Journalism is okay. Plus Fairbanks is like the ghetto of Alaska.
UA-Anchorage: Known for it's ugly campus (But not as ugly as UA-Fairbanks) and mediocre student body. Lots of Asians.
Alaska-Pacific: Right next to UAA. The campus is a little better, as is the reputation. It's small, but a lot of kids from my HS apply and go there.
Far North: A college that was apparently so unpopular and so lame that it closed in the middle of the school year and told all the students to go home.
UA-Southeast: Okay campus, located in the best part of Alaska, IMO. Juneau is a real cool city too. I think they have the state's only vet med dept? Maybe?
...And it's not in Alaska, but I might as well say the University of Washington, because more kids from my school go there than any college in Alaska. Most of te average/smart kids aim for it, and go to UAF when get rejected.

^ Wow, things must be different where you live. UAF is the only school in AK with respect here, light years above the others. UAA is a standing joke.

I would still never go to any college in Alaska. I could probably handle UA-Southeast for a year just because I like Juneau, but UAA/UAF=hell, IMO.

| Yes, putting it mildly. And I think you mean either salutatorian or valedictorian, but not "saludictorian".

ARIZONA UNIVERSITIES
THE TRUE GOOD AND BAD REPUTATIONS OF ARIZONA SCHOOLS
NORTHERN ARIZONA UNIVERSITY
GOOD: known for a really impressive police training and forest ranger departments and it has the best looking campus out of all the AZ schools
BAD: huge party school for many of the AZ students who would otherwise be going to a community college. Commonly known as Not A University or Non Academic University if known to anyone outside of arizona at all
ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY
GOOD: A growing honors college that is gathering prestige (however this may be simply because they have better PR then the U of A honors program). Also because the school is gigantic it used to have a lot of $ but with the budget cuts this is far from true now.
BAD: ASU unfortunately is the laughing stock of the academic world and it didnt help this reputation by not givin obama a honorary diploma (oops!). It is a huge party school for the mediocre and below students from AZ and a place to party for all the rich kids who couldnt get into a California state school. Known for STDs and 100% acceptance rate
UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA
GOOD: with out a doubt the best university in AZ. awesome business, medical, nursing, optical science schools and is gaining more recognition all the time. Many programs are ranked high and some even in the top 20. Grad schools are definitely more impressive and prestigous then the undergrad. Awesome basketball!
BAD: still has not reached the national acclaim that UVA and Berekly has but many claim it is on its way. Unfortunately still a huge party school and mostly just draws in all of the decent students from AZ and the stupid rich sorority girls from cali that couldnt get into their own state schools. Lost a ton of money with the budget cuts meaning huge re organizing and cuts of colleges

Florida:
Everyone seems to regard UF as the Harvard of the South.
FSU is alright.
Regionally people like UCF and USF but neither are really that good.

This is a great Facebook group that just got started that brutally lampoons schools in Oklahoma. It seems very similar to the one about Texas schools. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gi...6892683&ref=mf |

These guys are hilarious, I think it's University of Tulsa dudes that put this together. My favorites are this: Quote:
OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE STATE UNIVERSITY
You have a penchant for bestiality, dust storms, being antisocial, and/or your ACT score was less than the number of fingers on your left hand that got chewed up by a table saw when you were a toddler. Your future career aspirations include a migration 20 miles up Route 54 to the metropolis of Guymon to work in the pork slaughterhouse. Your "campus" looks like a sad elementary school and the town of Goodwell is nothing but a few grain elevators and a gas station that sells ridiculously overpriced gas because it's hundreds and hundreds of miles from the nearest city.
| And Quote:
ORAL ROBERTS UNIVERSITY
In high school, your sex life was like Langston University's affirmative action policy--a "Yes!" to everyone that applies. Your parents had a heart-to-heart with you and told you that if you don't stop trying to go to Hell for eternity they will not help you out at all with going to college. They did their research and found a little place called Oral Roberts University, named for the the most famous Holy Roller on the planet. Thanks to ORU, out of state people ask Oklahomans stupid questions like, "So, do you like go to Oral Roberts' church?" You're the only student body in Oklahoma that can actually say yes, yes you do go to Oral Roberts' church.
You have even gotten used to the bizarre architecture of the Oral Roberts U campus. Where others see apocalyptic visions of university life, you see a brilliant modernist design that incorporates many Biblical fables into each building. For instance, you can't go anywhere in South Tulsa without being able to spot the massive 667-foot tall tower (wait, isn't that the Devil's number?). Each building on the residential campus resembles the Tower of Babylon in some mysterious way (wait, didn't God smite the Babylonians?). In fact only you understand the meaning in all of this architecture.
Because you are a Golden Eagle, you know you are saved, because all students at ORU take an abstinence-until-marriage pledge. However there are many convenient ways around this. For instance, one popular loophole is screwing the Roberts family. Another popular loophole is joining the basketball program. There are many other popular loopholes. In fact, as amazing as it is..it seems like your sex life is even more active as an ORU student!

Tulsa didn't get bashed that hard.
Also, am I right in thinking that an Oklahoma liberal would be conservative anywhere else?

I wouldn't say that. I'm a Texas liberal and I'd say I'm just as liberal when I go anywhere else. Ann Richards and LBJ were from Texas. David Boren and Carl Alberts were from OK. Tom Coburn is from OK, and Ross Perot was from TX..those two guys aren't liked by either party.
As for Tulsa..I don't know how you could bash TU with an in-state stereotype other than nerd school, considering it's the highest ranked college in Oklahoma.
