Hi all,
I've been accepted to these two schools and need to get a deposit in soon. I've found lots of different advice concerning which to go (for Mechanical engineering)- but thought I'd put out a specific query to find people's opinions. About GT, I've heard that it's the better engineering school, but I do like Boston (including the weather) a lot more than Atlanta, having only visited Atlanta for a few days.I attended a Connect-with-Tech session and enjoyed myself, but wasn't strongly affected either way. I am international so would be out of state at GT.
So far I've been leaning strongly to Northeastern because of advice like "go where you'll be more comfortable/happy."
My question then is, is the perceived "drop off in quality" of GT's to NU's engineering programme so much that it would be a mistake to choose NU? Has anyone been to either place and felt employability, social life etc was affect by their choice?

Though I'm not one who slavishly follows rankings, I note that Northeastern's undergraduate program is ranked #57 while Georgia Tech's is ranked #5. This difference is significant.

I understand your feelings about fit -- and think there is some validity to them. If you'd said that you actively disliked GT and didn't feel that you'd fit in there, my advice would be you shouldn't go to any school that you dislike. If it's a matter of "I like them both, but like Northeastern better". I think I'd say go with the better school -- GT.

The funny thing about fit -- most students find that they find their 'niche' and their 'crowd' at any school.

Otherwise -- I think you're selling Atlanta short -- it's a great city.
