Safety Schools for with Good English Programs

I was just wondering if anyone had any reccomendations for good english programs on the west coast in schools that are more of a safety school for somone whose reaches include Columbia and Swarthmore and whose matches include UC Berkeley, UCLA, NYU, and Brown. I would also prefer the college to be a smaller private school.

Pitzer and Whitman seem more like safeties with the SAT ranges, but Pitzer still only has a 24% acceptance rate; however Whitman's 50% acceptance seems more reassuring. Reed seems like less of a safety. I was looking at Occidental and Pepperdine because I love living in California, but I wasn't sure how their English programs stand. Any other schools on the west?

Just a small correction: Whitman is in Washington, just over the Oregon border.

I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for, but I've heard that the University of Iowa has a really good english program for a public university.

Reed is not a safety. DD1 was waitlisted - NMF, 2230 SAT, 3.95 UW GPA. Showing interest is also very important in the admissions process there (she went on an overnight).

Whitman, Willamette, Lewis and Clark.
